Lost and Found- Artist Spotlight: Nikola Kekerović

Nikola Kekerović
Economy & Death: Bananas
Conceptual, Object, Mixed media

Nikola Kekerović’s works encourage the perception of social reality through its determination by current political policies via the use of humor, self-irony, ideological objects and symbols. Responses to the pandemic have often been framed in terms of striking a balance between protecting people’s health and protecting the economy. Based on the concept of ‘Economy & Death’ his artworks address these questions while also exposing the painful discrepancy between the labor for economic survival and the consequent death in artistic terms that artists face especially in times of crisis. The cost of this gain-and-loss situation ultimately sheds light to the challenges and the socially vulnerable position of contemporary artists.
