Abracadabra Institute

Independent Art Space in Berlin

About
Abracadabra Institute is a Berlin-based artist initiative and project space that slips in and out of form.
Conjured by artist Anna Livia Löwendahl-Atomic, the space echoes a long tradition of artist-led initiatives where the studio, the exhibition, and the experiment overlap. Named after an ancient incantation meaning “I create as I speak,” it calls forth constellations where curiosity, play, and imagination take center stage.

Abracadabra Institute borrows the frame of the gallery without being bound to it. Exhibitions, salons, and workshops appear and disappear like spells — sometimes carefully prepared, sometimes improvised at the last moment.
At times open to the public at times folding back into an atelier for artistic practice. Each iteration brings something new. If you feel the pull, step inside or send a sign. Let’s create as we speak.

The Venue.
Abracadabra Institute inhabits a small ground-floor apartment in a historical (Gründerzeit) building in Prenzlauer Berg—one of the last unrenovated spaces in the area, with its original high ceilings and particular atmosphere intact.
The space is furnished with objects chosen deliberately for their presence and history—a museum display cabinet from Berlin’s Staatliche Museum, a diplomat’s table that seats ten. Together with the building’s character, these elements create an atmosphere more akin to a cabinet of curiosities than the institutional white cube — less about neutrality, more about wonder.
